Some 80 women were included, with comparable oncological outcomes between robotic and open nipple sparing mastectomy at a median follow-up of 6.5 years. Five-year overall survival was 97.1 per cent in both groups, five-year disease-free survival was similar between robotic and open group (88.2 versus 88.6 per cent), as was breast cancer-specific survival (91.0 versus 91.2 per cent).
Comment: Robotic nipple-sparing mastectomy matches open surgery for 5-year oncological outcomes, although this small trial wasn't powered to prove it.
