Some 481 patients were included in the cost-utility analysis, where the probability of drug-coated balloon angioplasty being cost-effective at £20 000 per QALY was 52 per cent and 76 per cent, respectively. Differences in cost and quality-adjusted life year gains between drug-coated balloon angioplasty and drug-eluting stent with bare metal stent were not significant.
Comment: Drug-coated balloon angioplasty and drug-eluting stents show similar outcomes to bare metal stents, but they are not cost-effective.
